Booknizer - Smart Book Organizer For All Types of Books
In 1953 Ray Bradbury published Fahrenheit 451, his well-known dystopian novel about a future society where reading was crime. In this bleak future world, firemen did not extinguish fire anymore, they were there to burn books as quickly as possible to prevent the "disease" from spreading. Unlike George Orwell's 1984 (that received the Prometheus award together with Fahrenheit 451 in the same 1984), the novel focused not on dictatorship or censorship itself, but on how mass media and television destroyed the very interest in reading and how the rest just followed.
Luckily, it's more than 60 years later, and we are still free to read whatever we want. Moreover, the internet and various e-book reader devices make books even more accessible. Sales of e-books confirm that people continue to read, some experts even claim that we read more than ever. Do the experts take into account that a purchased book is not necessarily a read book? We may buy a bunch of books just because it's cheaper that way, and the books look promising, but it is easy to forget the initial interest after some time. We may even forget that we have already bought some book and buy it again.
That's where a book organizer becomes a great helper. A special library manager that keeps track of all our books, including electronic, audio and paper books, can spare our time and money by organizing everything automatically and providing us with various powerful features like instant search, filters, reports, and more.
Booknizer ( http://www.booknizer.com ) will scan your collection of e-books and audio books, extract information from the files and add the books to its database. Paper books can be added by title or by barcode (barcode scanners are supported, the program is also capable of reading barcodes through an ordinary webcam). Later the books can be filtered by their type, thus you can still work with all types separately, but it's nice to be able to see all editions of a book instantly.
The book organizer downloads information about books from internet databases, so you can simply scan a barcode and Booknizer will download a cover art, a description (summary), and other important details. These details can later be used for various purposes (for example, to select books by genre).
There are "Location" and "Book number" fields, so we can easily find out where a particular paper book or Audio CD is. It's a great time saver: instead of looking through all shelves where the book may stand we just locate it immediately. Another related feature of the library organizer is the built-in loan manager. It would be pointless to search shelves for a book borrowed by a friend, and everybody with a considerable library knows how easy it is to forget who borrowed this or that book. Booknizer will remind you whom you gave your book, when it was given and when it is to be returned.
E-books are naturally easier to catalog, Booknizer can simply scan them and add to its database automatically, the whole bunch at once. Here covers, descriptions and other info can be extracted from the files. If necessary, additional information can be downloaded from the internet, like with paper books. Electronic books have yet another advantage: in addition to the usual set of features you can open an e-book directly from Booknizer and read it in the associated third-party book reader program.
Booknizer is also capable of collecting information about authors. The most important part of such information is, of course, bibliography, the list of all books published by the author. Additionally the library manager downloads biography, photos, important facts. When browsing the author's page, you can click any book from the author's bibliography and download more information about it. In such way you can discover new interesting books and add them to your wish list.
In the main list, each book is represented by its cover, title, year, author. This list can be sorted in several ways and also can be switched to the "cover view" mode. If you need more sorting options, just switch to the "Collection" tab and customize sorting rules as necessary.
The "Quick filter" menu allows selecting certain groups of books easily. For example, here you can easily choose to show all unread books, or your wish list. The filtered list of books, just like the complete list, can be exported or printed using the "Reports" feature of the book organizer.
With Booknizer you will always know how many copies (editions) of the same book you have, which books from your library are waiting to be read, who borrowed this or that book. Additionally you will be able to sort your complete library in any desired way, quickly select books in a certain genre, by a certain author, enter your own information into custom fields, export and print reports, rate your books, and much more. Booknizer is a good choice for everybody who loves reading.
