Making Ink Cartridges Last Longer For Troubled Businesses
Making an ink cartridge last longer is a simple way that a business can save money. This can apply to black ink cartridges, but usage of colour ink cartridges in particular can be drastically reduced.
Why Colour Ink Cartridges Can be Used Sparingly
Colour ink cartridges can be used to create letterheads and leaflets, but a business will often use them more than is necessary. For instance, when using a colour ink cartridge to create a booklet, not all the pages in the booklet need to be in colour. In fact, using colour ink sparingly will help to make the colour itself stand out more. So, not only will a booklet look more effective, but money will be saved at the same time.
When looking to cut back on ink usage, using colour ink on the cover of a booklet will not really harm the overall appearance of a booklet. Likewise, when printing out leaflets or letterheads, colour ink doesn't need to be used anywhere else but on the heading of a leaflet, or in the name of the business on a letterhead. If the design of a leaflet or letterhead is striking enough then colour ink can be eliminated altogether. Using the right fonts and the right images can make colour ink superfluous - and reduce costs.
Use the Draft Feature for Black Ink Cartridges
The use of black ink can also be reduced by using the draft feature more when printing. Some items printed in black ink will look very similar to those items that have been printed using a higher quality setting. Things that can look inferior when printed in draft form are straight lines. This can be overcome by being more imaginative in design, and by using fonts that display symbols.
Compare how draft printings of a leaflet stand up to leaflets printed with a higher setting. One thing to look out for in draft copies is streaking. If there isn't any, and the difference in quality is hard to determine, then deciding to print out a batch of leaflets using a draft setting should be considered. A draft setting will mean a significant reduction in ink being used for a print run.
Types of Images to Avoid Printing
When printing images make sure not to use a photo or illustration that requires a lot of colour or black ink to print properly. Printing out many copies of leaflets with images that require a lot of ink will quickly drain the ink in your cartridge.
The Ink Refill Option
A way of avoiding having to purchase a new ink cartridge is to refill it. This can be a messy job, though it's easy enough to do. The quality of items, when printed using a properly refilled cartridge, will stand up pretty well against items printed with a virgin cartridge. For a business that needs to print out many items in the course of a year, using ink refill cartridges is an option that will help to cut expenditure.
