Nokia is a Finland based multinational communications corporation that is engaged in manufacturing mobile devices, and in converging internet and other communications industries. With global annual revenue of over €42 billion and operating profit of €2 billion as of 2010, today Nokia is the world's largest mobile phone manufacturer. Nokia mobile phone devices are available for every major market segment and protocol including GSM, CDMA and W-CDMA (UMTS).
Nokia mobile phones feature various internet services such as applications, games, music, maps, media, and messaging through the Ovi Platform. They lead not just in the mobile segment but as well as the digital camera phones and the digital audio player phones segment.
• 2004: First Touchscreen Nokia mobile phone was released, Nokia 7710.
• 2007: Nokia announced that Nokia 1100 which was launched in 2003 was the best-selling handset of all times.
• 2009: Launched X3 and X6 as music and social networking phones. X6 comes with 32GB of on-board memory with 3.2" of touchscreen and a playback time of 35 hours. Nokia X3 comes with stereo speaker, in-built FM and 3.2MP camera.
During the same year Nokia introduced another handset 7705 Twist, a square shaped phone that swivels open to exhibit a full QWERTY keypad. Available only through Verizon Wireless, this Nokia mobile phone features 3MP camera, web browsing, voice-commands, and weighs 3.44 ounces.
Nokia mobile phones are available in following series:
• 1000 (Ultra Basic series): Most affordable with most basic features.
• 2000 (Basic series): slightly more advanced than 1000 and feature colour screens with camera and Bluetooth.
• 3000 (Expression series: Mid-range phones targeted towards youth, especially males.
• 5000 (Active Series): They have similar features to 3000 but come with extra features for music playback.
• 6000 (Classic Business series): Largest family of Nokia phones available in mid and high range. Has a conservative unisex appeal.
• 7000 (Fashion and Experimental series): This range is targeted towards fashion forwards, especially women and also tests new features.
• 8000 (Premium series): They are characterized by ergonomics and attractiveness.
• 9000 (Communicator series now discontinued): First Nokia Smartphones.
• C series: They are affordable and optimized for social networking and sharing.
• E series: Enterprise class series that includes business-optimized Smartphones.
• N series: Most advanced Smartphone series for those who seek multimedia and connectivity features.
• X series: Focuses on young market and stresses on music and entertainment.
