There are many fantastic resorts for skiing. One of them is Gstaad which is located south of Bern and the east of Lake Geneva. Not only does it cater to all levels of skier, whether they are beginning or advanced, but Gstaad also has some of the most spectacular scenery imaginable. Mountain peaks and icy glaciers create an incredible backdrop to your ski holiday.
To create a relaxing experience, the resort of Gstaad is traffic-free so drive up there and park your vehicle outside of the main town centre. Gstaad offers more than eighty kilometres of ski slopes with numerous gondolas that can take up to 50,000 skiers per hour. In terms of accommodation there are 10,500 beds in Gstaad across hotels and guest houses. Gstaad is a great place for après ski with all sorts of restaurants and bars.
Within one hour of Geneva is the ski resort of Morzine which has more than 200 lifts and 400 pastes. Because the resort is above 2,000 there is reliable snow cover. Cross country skiers can enjoy more than 95 kilometres of runs and there are also good opportunities for beginners.
Another famous ski resort is Chamonix which is only one hour from Geneva and offers lifts to amazing vertical drop skiing. The après ski scene is lively all year around.
There are also a number of Geneva ski resorts located along the Grand Massif Mountain range. These include 16th century village of Morillon with its traditional ski resort which is also close to the more modern Les Esserts resort. And the nature reserve of Fer a Cheval is home to the Sixt resort which is treasured within France but little known outside of the country.

How to get to the Geneva Ski resorts
Although it is recommended to take a hire car up to the mountains for ease of travel throughout your trip, there are other options. Bus services go to some of the destinations in the Jura Mountains and the French Alps. Often the price of the bus ticket will also cover you for your ski pass as well so it is worth finding out. Meanwhile many of the ski resorts are near to train stations. Although hitchhiking in Geneva is a quite common way of getting around, it is difficult to do this with ski equipment in tow.
