Chosing the Right Wedding Flowers for You
The wedding bouquet and centerpiece are two focal points for the wedding. The dress may fade into a distant memory, unless it is extremely extravagant (and hugely expensive) but the flowers can make a lasting impression. Whereas 9 out of 10 brides will chose a white or ivory dress the choice of flower is allows you a stamp of individuality whereas the wedding dress may not.
Even a strongly traditional wedding allows a great flexibility with the choice of flowers; as long as it's tasteful there aren't any hard and fast rules. So you can really express yourself without worrying who you may offend. There is just so much choice it's sometimes difficult to make a decision!
The safe option would be a white, which you would associate purity and innocence. There are some stunning arrangements of lilies and roses with some green foliage like fern or ivy to offset the stark white. This can easily be a tasteful choice. The ivy was used to symbolize eternal fidelity and wedded bliss. Other white flowers to consider would be lilies of the valley or orchids.
A more passionate or confident choice would involve bright colors like yellows, reds or oranges. They would all make a bold statement about you as an individual. Rose is often associate as the classic flower of love, but some people are bored with that 'clichéchoice and would rather chose something unusual and more distinctive. Think about the impact from a bouquet of orange or yellow sunflowers or how about brilliant blue iris. They each make a totally different statement that is incredibly individualistic and self confident.
Not only can you chose the type of flower you also chose the shape of the bouquet. Do you prefer the cascading or waterfall style or would you rather have a more informal freestyle bouquet or even a traditional hand tied posy. This will change the whole perspective of the bouquet so it's another important choice to make.
My point is you can make the choice yours with flowers far more than you can with the dress. There is also the table decorations and bridegrooms buttonholes. They each need to complement each other. It's going to look a lot better as a coordinated whole that as a string of un-related arrangements.
The bottom line is it needs to what YOU want and to create the image that YOU want to project at your wedding. It doesn't need to be massively over the top to create a stylish attractive impression that will last. It just needs to be right for you.
