Effects of Accepting an Online Credit Card Payment
With the Internet being such an enormous giant in the world of shopping, the ability to accept an online credit card payment is pertinent to your business. After all, if you have a website, you certainly want people to be able to pay while they are there rather than expecting them to call over the telephone, mail a check, or use a PayPal account. There is certainly nothing wrong with any of those methods, except that each one requires a separate step in the order processing chain of events, whereas the ability to accept an online credit card payment can be completed in one final step at the completion of your order.
The purpose of having an e-Commerce site is to generate sales for your company, and the more convenient you make it for your customers, the higher your sales volume will be. Isn't that, after all, the purpose of having a website? Even if you have a physical building, your web presence will generate a great deal more volume for your business because of the large number of potential customers on the Internet. Of course, in order to do that, you have to be able to accept online credit card payments from those visitors who make the decision to buy from your site.
Accepting online credit card payments has become easier over the past decade, not only for the customer but for the merchant as well. The use of shopping cart software allows the customer to check in and out with ease, and even store their information on a secure server to use with the next purchase from your website. Secure websites that are SSL encrypted make it safer for the consumer, and eases some of the worries about their personal information being seen by hackers and others who are able to access it online. Certainly, you are still going to encounter some customers who are uneasy about putting their credit card information on the Internet, and for those, you can choose to accept a telephone payment instead of an online credit card payment. It is more difficult for you, but if it eases the worries of your customer, then it is worth it. Why lose a customer over such a trivial matter that is easily resolved?
For those customers who have PayPal accounts and do not desire to place their information on another Internet website, you may offer that as an option as well. It is no more expensive to accept an online credit card payment through PayPal than it is to accept it through your merchant account – in fact, it may be cheaper. This service allows your customers to not only pay for purchases with a credit card, but they can also use a debit card or e-check to pay for their purchases, thus expanding the opportunities for your customer if you do not already offer these options through your own merchant account processing company. Remember, the key to a successful e-Commerce website is doing whatever it takes to assure that your visitors return.
