Beaches
Cape Town is home to wonderful and family friendly beaches, and has an inviting coastline with great watersports and surfing opportunities. Boulders Beach in Simonstown is home to the African penguins and this is possibly the best and safest beach for families and small children. The warm waters are very safe for swimming and the huge granite boulders keep the beach area from any chilly south easterlies – so perfect for a picnic or party with the charming penguins, who are very tame and friendly! Don't be too surprised if they come up close looking for a snack or two...
A short walk from the Llandudno area is Sandy Bay, a beach noted for its tranquillity and privacy. Clifton beach and the white sands of Camps Bay Beach are other beaches worth checking out. Noordhoek Beach nearby offers horse riding for those inclined plus other watersports.
If you have budding surfers in your family, then take the 45-minute drive from Cape Town to the surfing Mecca of Muizenberg, and hit the waves running!
Boat Trips
If your kids are not queasy about going on a boat trip, there is plenty to do in the Cape Town area. Take a boat trip to wonderful Seal Island, offshore from the harbour at Hout Bay. See the plentiful seals in their full glory. Take a glass bottom boat tour out to Duiken Island to see the beauty of the sea and all its aquatic contents!

This is a perfect place to spend time with the kids. You can book a boat ride from the docklands and ride around the stunning coastline. Onshore, there is plenty of street entertainment on the sidewalks from mimers and buskers to keep the kids entertained! Stroll without a care in the world along the docks and marvel at the ships. There are plenty of shops and cafés/restaurants to tickle your taste buds. Museums are aplenty too – The Two Oceans Aquarium is a good place to watch sharks feeding!
