The war of the 8 megapixel camera phones - Samsung i8510 vs Sony Ericsson C905
The 5 megapixel camera phone is SO 2007, because in 2008, we'll see mobile phones with 8 megapixel cameras built in. Leading the charge are two bitter rivals, the Samsung i8510 and the Sony Ericsson C905.
Sony Ericsson C905 - Cyber-Shot powered goodness
Announced in July 2008, the Sony Ericsson C905 is the first of the 8 megapixel mobile phones to be announced for the UK. And it's a stunner, since it's not just 8 megapixels, but also Cyber-Shot powered. Now, that means several things: 1/ the Sony Ericsson C905 is ludicrously powerful; 2/ it will take photos so good they could punch a hole in time; 3/ no other camera-equipped mobile phones will be able to touch it (or will they? We'll see in a minute). Sony Ericsson really have produced a masterpiece here, with a sliding body giving this mobile phone a very sexy look and feel. Backing up the looks are the range of unbelieveable features, starting with that awesome 8 megapixel camera, rapidly followed by and amazing media player, built-in GPS, HSDPA and WiFi.
However, there's one thing this Sony Ericsson mobile phone isn't. Despite having lots of features, it's NOT a smart phone. To find a new 8 megapixel smart phone, we have to look elsewhere.
Samsung i8510 - The smart solution
In fact, we look here, at the Samsung i8510 INNOV8, the second 8 megapixel mobile phone announced for the UK. And this one IS a smart phone. So, you get a fabulous 8 megapixel camera, media player, super fast, and so on, but the whole thing is based on Symbian, like most of the 'smart' mobile phones in the world. THAT means that as well as the normal features and applications you get on this mobile phone, you can add on even more. Well... you can basically add on any software you can think of (and you'll find that if you can think of something you want your mobile phone to do, someone will have an app to do it!) The Samsung i8510 is, quite simply, one almighty wonder of a phone.
But how do they compare with each other? Which is the better buy?
Samsung vs Sony Ericsson - who will win?
Well, let's put it this way... things were looking bright for the Sony Ericsson, until this beauty rocked up on the scene, the reason being that both these mobile phones share the SAME 8 megapixel sensor, meaning the picture quality from both should be, as near as make as no difference, identical. That's a bad thing thing for Sony Ericsson but a good thing for Samsung, as the i8510 absolutely slaughters the C905 on features. There's no way a feature phone, a mobile phone that is, when all said and done, a low-end phone with bits bolted on, can beat a smart phone, one born and bred to do more right out of the box. That's why, when you look at the two mobile phones together... well, as much as it pains me to say this (I'm a Sony Ericsson nut), the Samsung i8510 beats the Sony Ericsson C905, hands down!
