All hail the victors! Yes, once again you have managed to survive the annual tax season madness. 99.9 percent of Americans will now stuff their boxes of receipts and such in the closet and try to forget everything till next year. You, however, will be different.
We all hate doing taxes. It takes time. It takes effort. By the end, you aren't sure if you are ripping off the government or paying twice as much as you should be. Even Albert Einstein said he couldn't figure out taxes, so how do schmucks like you and I have a chance? Well, the answer is simple. We need to get our acts together.
The key is preparation and organization. Dealing with your taxes is always going to be a miserable experience if you are doing it at the last moment. I've learned from my business that keeping books updated isn't hard and it makes tax season a breeze. I'm so lazy that I even do them online so I can look at them from anywhere. You can do something similar.
Let's go with a crazy notion. What if you dropped by Office Depot and purchased some hanging files? What if you put them up and labeled them with the appropriate names for your finances. All you have to do is drop receipts, orders and what have you in the appropriate files. You don't have to think about them or anything. There will be no panic in your house when tax season rolls around next year. You'll already have everything organized. That's have the battle to getting your taxes done. Just try it for one year and you will be amazed at the difference.
Now, there is one other step you should take while the fires are hot. You should pay for a one our consultation with a quality CPA. Ask around and you will find one. The purpose of the meeting will be to review your financial life and see if there are any moves you can make to save money on your taxes. You might be shocked to see what a difference a few things can make. If nothing else, you can deduct the fees of the CPA.
You've survived the tax season this year, but the next one is less than a year away. Get organized and prepared! It will make next year much more bearable.
