Julianne Moore Rocks
I was thinking back on my favorite movies and all of the great acting performances I've witnessed throughout the years. I remembered talented actors that are often overlooked such as Julianne Moore. Actors that don't always choose the most popular movie roles can easily go unnoticed and although Moore has gained popularity over the past few years she has been in the business for much longer than you might think. Julianne Moore is in my top 20 list of favorite actresses.
Moore entered the limelight along with the release of Boogie Nights in 1997. She took on a very provocative role as a porn star named Amber Waves, a mother who lost custody of her children due to her line of business. She took a new adult star under her wing to show him the tricks of the trade (played by Mark Wahlberg). This movie was an absolute blast (the fact that I love disco made it even better) and it certainly had its funny moments. Moore won four awards for Best Supporting Actress alongside Burt Reynolds who won nine awards for Best Supporting
Actor. He didn't even need to take his clothes off! Wait. That's probably a good thing.
The truth is that Moore started off her acting career on the soap opera As the World Turns in which she played the roles of two half-sisters from 1985-1988. These two roles earned her the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series. I am not a soap opera fan, so that explains why I didn't know who she was back then.
The first time I noticed that I was a fan of Julianne Moore was when I saw the movie Short Cuts on video. Robert Altman and Frank Barhydt wrote the screenplay for this film and it was released back in 1993. I recently went to the video store to rent this movie again so my husband could see it and was extremely disappointed when I realized that Blockbuster doesn't have it and neither does the other neighborhood video store! I remember watching this film after having my wisdom teeth out. It made the pain so much more tolerable as it offered three hours and seven minutes of pure entertainment! Moore was nominated for Best Supporting Female at the Independent Spirit Awards for her role in Short Cuts.
The next movie that Moore made that gained popularity was Nine Months also starring Hugh Grant in which a dating couple realizes that they are having an unexpected baby. This wasn't one of the best movies I've ever seen, but as far as simple entertainment is concerned, it was a great time. This film was a fun combination of comedy, romance and drama and is a blast to watch if you're expecting a baby. Moore was adorable pregnant and truly played her character to a tee.
I would have to say that Moore's best acting would have to be for her characters in Boogie Nights, A Single Man, The Hours and Chloe. She won many awards for the film Far From Heaven that I'm surprised, I've never seen. I will be checking out this flick over the weekend and will hopefully be writing a shining review on it soon! If you haven't seen these movies, check them out this weekend for your entertainment and you'll be happy you did. Don't start with Chloe because this is Moore at her prime. Go back to the older films and begin your journey. Write your review when you're done!
