Blogging Tips For Musicians
Blogging is one great online tool for musicians to gain more fans. It would help you build a solid fanbase if you broadcast your life and philosophies online since it creates an intimate relationship to the readers. It makes them feel like they know something important about you that not most people know. This makes the readers more interested in your music and they start to develop a feeling of ownership-that they have more right to appreciate your music because they know more about your life.
If you are a musician who wants to start a blog, here are some tips for you to make it more effective:
1. Share personal information
The usual blogs of musicians are mostly informative. They simply talk about their gigs and about their latest album. That's okay since that's necessary but blogging about those things alone doesn't build any connection to your followers. You have to share a bit of yourself to them-it could be about your childhood, the difficulties you encountered while on tour, what your opinions are about the music industry, your advocacies, even the most shallow details about your everyday life.
2. Do not be scared to make fun of yourself.
So you accidentally stepped on some poop this morning while a fan asked for your autograph, blog about it! That's what fans like me would love to know -the human aspect of you. That you are, in fact, just like us who encounter embarrassing situations every now and then.
3. Include plenty of images.
Generally, people love reading blogs with lots of photographs in it. Your fans will definitely love seeing photographs of you in your regular daytime clothes for the same reason as the ones mentioned above-it creates a certain level of closeness. Take photos of you with your dog, with your neighborhood, while you're grocery shopping, while you're bored at the airport. The photographs would also serve as proof that you're the one who's actually writing on your blog.
4. Link your blog to online social networks
Once you're confident with your lay-out and blog posts, then go ahead link it to your facebook, twitter, myspace, what have you. An awesome blog is useless if no one reads it. No one reads it if no one knows about it. The best way to let people know is thru social networking sites.
5. Update it regularly.
I do not suggest you update it once a day but do not update it once a month either. If you update it too often, it would be draining not only to you but to your fans as well. It would also seem like you're trying too much and that you have lots of free time. You know how it feels when someone is always available and you kind of lose interest unintentionally. Well, same goes with blogging. Five to seven blog updates a month is ideal.
Blogging is not easy. It requires a chunk of your precious time and your dedication to update it. Make sure that when you start your blog, you're ready to update it regularly with valuable content because once a fan discovers it, he would surely look forward to your next post. If you do not maintain it, your fans would lose interest or forget about it and it would soon die.
