Mobility, Im, Collaboration To Be Key Drivers Of Uc In Apac
The focus on Unified Communications has increased in Asia Pacific region, according to a report by research house Frost & Sullivan. According to the agency, the unified communications market will grow at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 9.2 per cent in the region, amounting to an impressive $ 7 billion by 2016. This figure currently stands at less than $ 5 billion, which shows the tremendous growth potential of the sector. Cisco has emerged as one of the biggest solution providers in the region, leveraging its Jabber UC solution to companies that seek the perfect platform for merging audio, video and web conferencing.
According to Frost & Sullivan, enterprises in Asia Pacific region value three key tools of UC solutions, namely collaboration, Instant Messaging and support for mobility. Cisco Jabber is a powerful solution that delivers all three business benefits to the users at the best possible costs. This solution has a reliable IM application that can be used for one-to-one as well as group chats, which can source contact lists from the users' AOL accounts or any XMPP-based chat client.
Cisco Jabber supports collaboration through a host of features, including file transfer, desktop sharing, hosting Power Point presentations as well as desktop video conferencing. Since this feature is mostly preferred by companies in Banking and Financial Services Institutions (BFSI), education and hi-tech industries for remote collaboration. As a part of Unified Communication solution, this feature of web conferencing is expected to be one of the key growth drivers of this platform in the market. Moreover, it will play a crucial role in reducing the carbon footprint of the users by a significant margin, which is at the forefront of most Malaysian firms' agendas.
The web conferencing component of UC is expected to be used 95 per cent of the time for internal meetings, 48 per cent for trainings and 40 per cent for external communications, for example with clients and vendors. Apart from that, Frost & Sullivan believes that it will be used 20 per cent of the times for sales & marketing applications as well as webinars. Video conferencing component feature of Unified Communications is also expected to grow in demand. Its revenues in 2011 itself stood at 653 millions in APAC, at CAGR of 15.7 per cent.
Mobility is the next big thing in Malaysia, which has become one of the main reasons companies in the APAC region are adopting UC solutions that support mobility. Enterprise communication will become more and more dependent on mobile devices, like Smartphones and tablet computers. The concept of Mobile Unified Communications is gaining traction in the corporate environment, where such devices are being used in conjunction with the existing PBX network to extend its capabilities to those who work on-the-move, such as sales & marketing professionals. Vendors provide Cisco Jabber with dedicated apps for mobile devices, which enable users to join an ongoing conference or start a new one at the touch of a button.
